5-Seater Car Rental in Taiwan: Vios, Yaris, Yaris Cross or Colt Plus? How to Choose for Your Self-Drive Trip
Is a 5-seater enough for your Taiwan road trip, and which one should you book? This guide covers only the cars that GoodCars currently lists on its official 5-seater page: the Toyota New Vios, Toyota New Yaris, Toyota Yaris Cross and Mitsubishi New Colt Plus, plus a “Random Brand” option. Every spec below (doors, luggage, engine size, fuel type) comes straight from the GoodCars website, so you can choose by group size and luggage. If you are more than five people or carrying a lot of bags, we also explain when to switch to a 7- to 9-seater.
For two to four travellers, a 5-seater usually covers a Taiwan road trip (Unsplash, location tagged Taiwan by the photographer; illustrative only, not a GoodCars vehicle)
- Models: four cars on the official 5-seater page (New Vios, New Yaris, Yaris Cross, New Colt Plus) plus one “Random Brand” option
- What they share: all automatic, all 1500 cc, all run on 95 unleaded petrol, all seat 5
- Main differences: number of doors (the Vios has 4, the rest have 5) and the luggage count listed for each car (2 to 4 bags)
- Most luggage: Yaris Cross (listed as SUV class, 4 bags)
- Cost: rental plus a mileage fee; every car comes with a dedicated fuel card, so you never pay for fuel yourself
Which 5-Seaters Does GoodCars Offer? The Specs in One Table
This table is taken from the GoodCars 5-seater page (checked 26 September 2026). “Bags” is the luggage count GoodCars lists for each car. Use it to compare the cars with each other; what actually fits still depends on the size of your suitcases.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toyota New Vios | Economy | 4 | 3 | 1500 cc | 95 unleaded | 5 / automatic |

How to Choose: Match the Car to Your Group and Your Luggage
All five options seat five, have a 1500 cc automatic gearbox and take 95 unleaded, so only two questions really matter: how many bags you are bringing, and whether you prefer a 4-door sedan or a 5-door car.
Doors, explained: a 4-door is a classic sedan with a separate boot (trunk); a 5-door has four passenger doors plus a rear tailgate. Both seat five; the difference is where and how your luggage goes in.
Toyota New Vios: 4 doors, 3 bags
- Listed specs: economy class, 4 doors, 3 bags, 1500 cc, 95 unleaded, automatic.
- Among the economy cars, the Vios is listed with one more bag than the New Yaris.
- Good for: two to four people with one suitcase each, on a holiday or a business trip.
Toyota New Yaris: 5 doors, 2 bags
- Listed specs: economy class, 5 doors, 2 bags, 1500 cc, 95 unleaded, automatic.
- Its luggage count is among the lowest in the line-up (the same 2 bags as Random Brand).
- Good for: one or two people travelling light, mostly in cities or on short drives.
Toyota Yaris Cross: SUV class, most luggage (4 bags)
- Listed specs: SUV class, 5 doors, 4 bags, 1500 cc, 95 unleaded, automatic.
- The only 5-seater listed as an SUV, and the one with the highest luggage count.
- Good for: three to five people, lots of luggage, round-the-island trips or longer itineraries.
Mitsubishi New Colt Plus: 5 doors, 3 bags
- Listed specs: economy class, 5 doors, 3 bags, 1500 cc, 95 unleaded, automatic.
- Same luggage count as the Vios (3 bags), but with five doors.
- Good for: two to four people with a medium amount of luggage who prefer a 5-door car.
Random Brand: limited, model not guaranteed
- Listed specs: economy class, 5 doors, 2 bags, 1500 cc, 95 unleaded, automatic; limited availability and the model is random, so you cannot choose which car you get.
- Good for: travellers who just need a 5-seater and don't mind the model.
Count your bags before you pick: GoodCars lists a luggage count of 2 to 4 bags for each 5-seater (Unsplash, illustrative)
| Your trip | Look at first |
|---|---|
| 1–2 people, light luggage, mostly city driving | New Yaris, Random Brand |
| 2–4 people, one suitcase each | New Vios, New Colt Plus |
| 3–5 people, lots of luggage, round-the-island or a long trip | Yaris Cross |
| 5 people with a big suitcase each, or more than 5 people | 7- to 9-seaters (see the next section) |

When Should You Switch to a 7- to 9-Seater?
The most luggage any 5-seater is listed for is 4 bags (Yaris Cross). If five adults each bring a large suitcase, or your group is bigger than five, look at the 7- to 9-seater page. GoodCars currently lists five models there:
| Model | Seats | Bags | Fuel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toyota Wish | 7 | 2 | 95 unleaded |
| Volkswagen Touran | 7 | 2 | 95 unleaded |
| Luxgen M7 Turbo ECO Hyper | 8 | 3 | 95 unleaded |
| Hyundai Staria | 9 | 5 | Diesel |
| Hyundai Starex | 9 | 6 | Diesel |
- More seats does not mean more luggage: the Wish and Touran are listed as 7-seaters with 2 bags, fewer than the 5-seat Yaris Cross (4). For a big group with big bags, look at the Staria or Starex.
- The Staria and Starex run on diesel (the Chinese-language site calls it 超級柴油, “super diesel”), not the 95 unleaded used by the 5-seaters. You still pay with the car's dedicated fuel card, but check the pump label before you fill up.
- Higher mileage rate: the per-kilometre mileage fee GoodCars publishes for 7- to 9-seaters is higher than for 5-seaters. If your group is five or fewer and the bags fit, a 5-seater costs less to drive.
For a closer look at the bigger cars, see 7-Seater and 9-Seater Car Rental Recommendations.
Choose a pickup location and dates, and the booking page shows every car that branch has on the day, 5-seaters and 7- to 9-seaters alike, with a live quote. You pay rental plus a mileage fee; fuel goes on the dedicated fuel card.

What It Costs: Rental + Mileage Fee + Dedicated Fuel Card
With a GoodCars 5-seater, your bill has just two parts: rental and a mileage fee.
- Rental: depends on the car and your dates (weekdays, weekends and public holidays are priced differently). See the live quote on the booking page.
- Mileage fee: (odometer at return − odometer at pickup) × the per-kilometre rate published for that model. All five 5-seater options currently show the same per-kilometre rate (checked 26 September 2026), so when you compare 5-seaters, the rental is what differs.
- Dedicated fuel card: every car comes with one. Swipe it at the pump and you never pay for fuel yourself, because fuel is already covered by the mileage fee. There is no need to top up before you return the car.
- No cap on distance: drive as far as your trip takes you. Forgot the fuel card and paid for fuel yourself? Keep the receipt and the full amount is credited against your mileage fee.
- Freeway tolls: ETC tolls are settled separately under the GoodCars rules; see the Taiwan ETC Highway Toll Guide.
For the details, see the official mileage fee page and Mileage Fee Explained. For typical price levels by car type and when to book, read How Much Does Car Rental Cost in Taiwan?. All 5-seaters take 95 unleaded; if you have never used a Taiwanese petrol station or are unsure how the fuel card works at the pump, the Taiwan Gas Stations Guide walks you through it.
Travelling With Kids: Child Seats and Dashcams Can Be Added
The GoodCars add-ons page lists two extras you can rent with the car: a child safety seat and a dashcam; see the website for the current fee. Taiwan has child car seat rules, so read Taiwan's Child Car Seat Regulations before you go, and Recommended Self-Drive Routes for Family Trips for itinerary ideas.

Three Things to Check Before You Book
- Fleets differ by branch: not every model is at every branch on every day, so go by what the booking page shows. If you want a particular car (for example the Yaris Cross for its luggage room), book early, especially for public holidays and school breaks.
- Your licence and documents: most foreign visitors need their home licence plus an International Driving Permit (IDP); check your country in the Taiwan IDP guide and see the full checklist in the Taiwan Car Rental Guide for Foreign Visitors. Taiwan drives on the right; the key road rules are in Driving in Taiwan.
- Pick up in one place, return in another: for a one-way trip, choose a different return branch on the booking page to see whether it can be booked and what it costs. Rules and popular routes are in One-Way Car Rental in Taiwan.
FAQ
Q1. Can five adults and their luggage fit in a 5-seater?
It depends on the bags. GoodCars lists 2 to 4 bags for its 5-seaters, with the Yaris Cross at the top (4). Five adults with a large suitcase each is more than that, so look at the 9-seat Staria (5 bags) or Starex (6 bags). If everyone travels with a backpack, a 5-seater is fine.
Q2. Can I choose a specific model?
Once you pick a branch and dates, the booking page lists the models available that day. The “Random Brand” option is a limited, random model, so you cannot choose it. Fleets differ by branch; the booking page is the final word.
Q3. Are they manual or automatic?
All automatic. Every 5-seater option on the GoodCars website is listed as automatic, with a 1500 cc engine.
Q4. What fuel do they take?
All GoodCars 5-seaters are listed as 95 unleaded (95無鉛 at the pump). When you need fuel, just swipe the car's dedicated fuel card; fuel is covered by the mileage fee. For 92/95/98 and self-service pumps, see the Taiwan Gas Stations Guide.
Q5. Do I have to add fuel before I return the car?
No. You refuel with the dedicated fuel card and fuel is already included in the mileage fee, so there is no need to top up; just bring the car back to the agreed return point on time. For after-hours or self-service pickup and return, see the Self-Service Car Pickup & Return Guide.
Q6. Is the mileage fee the same for every car?
All five 5-seater options currently show the same per-kilometre rate; 7-seaters and 8- to 9-seaters are charged at a higher rate. The published rates on the mileage fee page and the car pages always take priority.
All four 5-seaters are automatic, 1500 cc and run on 95 unleaded. You pay only rental and a mileage fee, fuel goes on the dedicated fuel card, and there is no cap on distance. Choose your dates and book online.
