Moving flats, picking up furniture or delivering a load of goods? Renting a small truck and driving it yourself is often the most flexible option. GoodCars (固得租車) rents out four small trucks — the CMC Veryca (菱利) and the Mitsubishi Delica (得利卡), in manual and automatic — priced as rental fee + mileage fee, with a fuel card in every truck. This guide is written for people living in Taiwan and covers which truck to pick, whether an ordinary car licence is enough, how to load safely, which stores have trucks, late-night pickup and how the cost works.

Which of the 4 small trucks should you rent?

The four trucks listed on GoodCars' truck page differ in only three ways: engine size (Veryca 1.3L/1.5L, Delica 2.4L), manual or automatic, and whether there is a tail lift. All four have a steel frame with a canvas cover over the bed.

Only drive automatic? Pick one of the automatics. Hill starts and stop-go traffic with a full load are hard work in a manual truck if you are out of practice. The tail lift (Delica automatic only) raises heavy items from the ground to bed height; keep hands and feet clear of its edges, secure trolleys before lifting, and latch it closed before driving. If it's your first time, pick up in the daytime at a staffed store and ask for a quick demo. The tail-lift Delica can currently be booked in Taipei, Banqiao, Taoyuan/Dayuan, Kaohsiung Airport and Luodong; Xinzhuang and Taichung currently have Veryca trucks only (subject to the booking page). The canvas keeps off normal rain and sun, but seams and openings can still let water in, so wrap boxes, mattresses and appliances in plastic and tighten every strap before you set off.

Can you drive a truck on an ordinary car licence?

Yes for a small truck, no for a large truck. Taiwan licences are issued by vehicle class, and what decides the class of a truck is its gross vehicle weight on the registration (行照):

• Article 3 of the Road Traffic Safety Rules (道路交通安全規則) defines a small truck as one with a gross weight of 3,500 kg or less (since 4 September 2020, newly registered trucks over 3,500 kg and up to 5,000 kg that are no longer than 6 m also count as small trucks).
• The Highway Bureau's MVDIS guideline on small-vehicle types lists small passenger cars, small trucks, small passenger-cargo vehicles and others as "small vehicles" (小型車).
• Article 53 sets out the licence classes (small vehicle, large truck, bus, tractor-trailer, each ordinary or professional), and Article 61 lets holders of a large-truck licence or higher drive small vehicles — so a small-vehicle licence covers small trucks, while large trucks need a large-truck licence.

Mitsubishi Taiwan's official spec sheet gives the standard-bed Delica truck a gross weight of 2,715 kg, well inside the small-truck limit; the Veryca is a smaller-engined (1.3L/1.5L) small truck. You can confirm on the registration's gross-weight field when you pick up. Looking for a "3.5-ton truck"? What GoodCars' small trucks can carry

A "3.5-ton truck" (三噸半) in Taiwan usually means a truck whose gross weight is close to the 3,500 kg small-truck limit, not one that carries 3.5 tonnes. GoodCars does not rent 3.5-ton-class trucks; the fleet is Veryca and Delica small trucks. Official figures for the standard-bed Delica (Mitsubishi Taiwan spec sheet): gross weight 2,715 kg; payload 1,190 kg (manual) / 1,170 kg (automatic); cargo bed 2,850 × 1,635 mm; 3 seats including the driver. GoodCars' trucks carry a frame and canvas (and a tail lift on the automatic), which add weight, so the real payload is lower — follow the figure on the registration. We don't list Veryca figures because the older model's official spec page is no longer online.

Good fit: studio, room or dorm moves, a few pieces of furniture, single appliances, shop restocks and event gear. Split into trips or hire movers: a whole multi-room flat at once, pianos or safes, or large furniture that needs professional dismantling. Measure your largest item and compare it with the bed size before booking.

Moving with a rented truck: packing, tying down, loading and parking

• Pack: small boxes for books and dishes, large ones for bedding; label every box by room; tape drawers and doors shut.
• Load: heavy items low and towards the cab, light items on top and towards the tail, weight balanced left and right. Stand tall furniture against the cab or side and tie it to fixed points — bring your own ropes or straps (ask the store whether any are provided).
• Check: push the load after tying; re-check the ropes at every stop. Under Article 30 of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act, loads that fall or scatter, or are carried unsafely, are penalised.

• No overloading, no riders in the bed: Article 29-2 penalises exceeding the approved gross weight, and Article 30 bans carrying people outside the cab or more people in the cab than approved.
• Drive carefully: the frame and canvas block your rear view, so have a helper guide you when reversing; allow longer braking distances when loaded.
• Apartment buildings: book the moving slot with the management office, check the height limit before entering an underground car park (the frame makes the truck taller), and load at the roadside only where parking is legal — see our guide to parking in Taiwan.

Which GoodCars stores have trucks?

GoodCars' trucks are based at the stores below (addresses and hours from GoodCars' official store data — use the Chinese address in your navigation app). "Models now bookable" changes as trucks move around; the booking page is always the final word.

We don't publish truck numbers. "Models now bookable" reflects booking-page quotes checked on 25 Sep 2026 for pickups on 7 and 14 Oct 2026.

No trucks available right now at Taipei Main Station, Banqiao Station, Xinzhuang Fu Jen, Taoyuan HSR, Pingzhen Fumei, Taichung Airport or Taichung HSR, and none at Taoyuan Airport, Zuoying HSR, Kaohsiung Main Station, Yilan, Jiaoxi, Keelung, Hsinchu HSR, Chiayi HSR, Tainan HSR, Hualien or Taitung. In the south book Kaohsiung Airport, in Yilan book Luodong, in Taichung book Taichung Railway Station.

24-hour truck rental: can you pick up late at night?

The pickup and return times you can choose online are the hours each store opens on the booking page. For stores with trucks:

• Bookable online around the clock: Songshan Airport and Nangang (parking-lot self-service) and Dayuan Store take online bookings 00:00–23:55 (Dayuan notes self-service from 21:00 to 09:00). To lock in a middle-of-the-night or dawn pickup online, choose one of these three.
• Kaohsiung Airport: online bookings 09:00–23:55 — slots run up to 23:55, but there are no pickup times between 00:00 and 09:00.
• Wenshan: listed as a parking-lot station, but the exact spot follows on-site staff instructions — call ahead for late-night use (02-2749-1155).
• Other truck stores (Songshan, Banqiao, Xinzhuang, Taoyuan, Taichung Railway Station, Luodong): online bookings 09:00–21:00; for pickup or return outside opening hours (21:00–09:00), call the store in advance and they will arrange it (Songshan 02-2749-1155, Banqiao 02-8966-1896, Xinzhuang 02-2995-7700, Taoyuan 03-339-0909, Taichung Railway Station 04-2201-0077, Luodong 03-956-0505).

A handy plan for working people: pick up after work, move early the next morning and return the same day. If you'll reach a 09:00–21:00 store after closing, call the store in advance and they will arrange it; to book a middle-of-the-night slot online, choose Songshan Airport, Nangang or Dayuan.

One-way truck rental (甲租乙還): currently not available — return to the same store

Many people want to collect a truck near the old home and drop it near the new one. At the moment GoodCars' online booking does not offer one-way truck rentals: trucks must be picked up and returned at the same store (if you choose different pickup and return stores, the truck category is removed). For a move across districts, pick the truck store closest to your old or new home, plan the loop pickup → old home → new home → back to the store, and allow extra time if you need several trips. For long-distance moves, factor in the drive back to the original store; for special requests, contact the store. How much does truck rental cost? Rental fee + mileage fee + fuel card

• Rental fee: depends on model, dates and length of hire. Besides daily rates, the truck price list has short-duration, weekly and monthly pricing — what you can book and the price are shown live on the booking page.
• Mileage fee: charged per kilometre driven, with a truck rate on the official mileage page; there is no cap on distance, so cross-county moves are fine.
• Fuel card: every truck comes with a GoodCars fuel card — fuel is built into the mileage fee, so you don't pay for fuel yourself and can return the truck without a petrol-station stop.
• Paid for fuel yourself by mistake? Keep a valid receipt from the rental period and it can offset that rental's mileage fee (up to the full amount).
• Extras: highway ETC tolls and add-ons are charged separately, as shown on the booking page and contract.

Renting a truck by area

Taichung: only Taichung Railway Station Store (中區建國路157號) has trucks (currently Veryca auto and manual; online bookings 09:00–21:00, out-of-hours pickup arranged by phone); Taichung HSR and Taichung Airport have none available. More: Taichung Railway Station car rental.

Taoyuan: Taoyuan Store (桃園區三民路二段296號, online bookings 09:00–21:00, out-of-hours by phone) and Dayuan Store (bookable online around the clock) share the Taoyuan trucks; Taoyuan HSR, Pingzhen Fumei and Taoyuan Airport have none available. More: Taoyuan car rental.

Truck rental FAQ

Can I drive GoodCars' trucks on an ordinary car licence?

With a Taiwan ordinary small-vehicle licence, yes: trucks up to 3,500 kg gross weight are small vehicles (Article 3, Road Traffic Safety Rules). The Delica's official gross weight is 2,715 kg; check the registration at pickup. Foreign licence holders should check the documents required on the booking page.

I only drive automatic — is there a truck for me?

Yes: the Veryca 1.5L and the Delica 2.4L (with tail lift) are automatic, and every store with trucks currently has at least one of them. Availability on the day is shown on the booking page.

Do I pay for fuel? Do I have to stop for petrol before returning the truck?

No. Use the fuel card in the truck; fuel is covered by the mileage fee, and you can return it without refuelling.

Can I drive to another county, or return the truck to a different store?

You can drive anywhere — there is no cap on distance — but trucks can't be rented one way at the moment: return the truck to the store you picked it up from, and contact the store for special requests. One-way rental is available for cars, subject to the booking page.

Can I pick up at night?

Yes. Songshan Airport, Nangang and Dayuan can be booked online around the clock (00:00–23:55); Kaohsiung Airport goes up to 23:55; for Wenshan, call ahead. The other truck stores take online bookings 09:00–21:00 — for pickup or return outside opening hours (21:00–09:00), call the store in advance and they will arrange it. What documents do I need, and what about payment, the deposit and insurance?

Taiwan nationals: ID card + valid driving licence; you can pay by card or in cash (at self-service parking-lot stations, pay online during booking). Foreign licence holders should check the documents required on the booking page.
